Lira City, Uganda – October 23, 2025:
The Minister of Health, Hon. Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng Ocero, has been officially nominated to contest as the National Resistance Movement (NRM) flag bearer for the Lira City Woman Member of Parliament seat in the upcoming 2026 general elections.
The nomination event took place at the Lira City Council Electoral Commission offices, where Dr. Aceng was formally declared by the Returning Officer as a duly nominated candidate under the Parliamentary Elections Act.
Amidst cheers, music, and jubilations from her supporters, Dr. Aceng expressed deep gratitude to God, her party, and the people of Lira City for the continued trust and support they have shown her over the years.
“It is a day that the Lord made and saw fit that we, the three NRM candidates for Lira City, would be successfully nominated,” she said. “I thank God that this has been achieved. As the current Woman MP, I intend not only to protect the gains we have made but also to enhance them in all areas of development — health, education, water and sanitation, and wealth creation.”
Dr. Aceng emphasized her commitment to advancing health services in Lira City, pledging to strengthen both primary and tertiary healthcare systems, while addressing key social determinants such as access to clean water, improved sanitation, and community wealth creation.
She also reaffirmed her loyalty to the NRM party and its leadership under President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, saying, “There is no other party in this country with a better agenda for Ugandans than the NRM. We are determined to paint this city yellow and continue the work we have begun.”
Dr. Aceng was joined by fellow NRM parliamentary candidates — Dennis Alella Omodi (Lira City East Division) and Eddie Morris Awang (Lira City West Division) — who were also successfully nominated. Together, the trio vowed to consolidate the NRM’s dominance in the city and deliver development that benefits all residents.
Speaking after his nomination, Mr. Alella said, “Lira City is on the right path to progress. With our NRM team now fully nominated, we are ready to work for industrialization, job creation, and empowerment of the youth and women. We are confident that the people of Lira will once again vote for transformation.”
Supporters from across the city turned up in large numbers, dancing and singing NRM songs as they celebrated what they described as the beginning of another victory for the ruling party in the region.
The event was attended by religious leaders, local officials, and hundreds of party loyalists who prayed for peace and unity throughout the campaign period.
As Dr. Aceng seeks a renewed mandate, she promised to continue her vision of building a healthier, wealthier, and more prosperous Lira City.
