In a bid to mobilize support for President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, the youth team behind the “10 Million Votes for Muzee” slogan has launched the “Sauti Ya Vijana” campaign at Makerere University. The initiative aims to involve all categories of youth, including students from various universities and colleges, in the electoral process.

Talking to the previous national youth Chairperson, H.E Eyeru Jacob said
“This initiative is a new National Resistance Movement (NRM) campaign aimed at mobilizing youth across various institutions. Given the district-based nature of presidential campaigns, the NRM seeks to reach out to students in different institutions, ensuring their voices are heard and their support is mobilized.”

The launch event at Makerere University marks a significant milestone in the campaign’s efforts to engage young people in the country’s political landscape. While the name “Sauti Ya Vijana” translates to “The Voice of Youth” in Swahili, the campaign’s focus appears to be on garnering support for President Museveni’s election.

LAUNCH STATEMENT FOR THE “SAUTI YA VIJANA” CAMPAIGN

” • Reaching every Institution and First-time voter with the NRM message –

Fellow young people of the National Resistance Movement, distinguished leaders of our great Party, Ladies and gentlemen.

Today, our party stands on the edge of a new generation in almost all aspects of our nationhood. From our leaderships in local governments, government parastatals, and private sector players, to our institutions of democracy like the legislature and the judiciary, faces are changing, and generations are shifting.

For too long, the voices of our young supporters of the NRM message and President Museveni’s vision, in their millions of first-time voters, students, and emerging leaders in schools and institutions have been muted in the political conversation, only acting as voters and not loud influencers of the political conversation.

Our rallies have been massive, our songs loud, and more recently, our dancing electric; but in lecture halls, dormitories, and technical institutions, where Uganda’s youngest voters live, study, and think, our message has been absent.

And yet, the numbers tell us something powerful: Every election cycle, the largest share of new and first-time voters are found within academic institutions, secondary schools, universities, technical colleges, and training centres. The voters in this election were born as early as the year 2007, and we shall have about 3 million first-time voters. This iPhone generation is influenced more by what they watch for memes and which content TikTok pushes on their screen than by the big speeches we make on campaign rallies. Their attention span in a meeting is 20 minutes before they start scrolling for more entertaining dancers on their screens.

These are the voters who are forming their first opinions about leadership, their first convictions about nationhood, and their first commitments to civic duty. But this space has remained largely untapped. Traditional mobilization rallies, processions, and roadside speeches rarely reach them.

“Sauti ya Vijana” is here to change that. This initiative is built on a simple idea: to have young volunteers take the NRM message to where the new voters are, not to wait for them to come to us. We will engage them in conversations, not monologues. We will hold dialogues and idea exchanges in campuses and institutions across Uganda. We will meet them in their world in classrooms and on social media, in assemblies and university halls; to speak about the issues that shape their future: education, innovation, jobs, and the Uganda they want to see. We the young people of the NRM must communicate the Gains in our way and style to the young people of our country.

But as we launch this initiative, we must also look inward. There has been a growing perception and perhaps rightly so, that the young people of the NRM have lacked real agency. That we have been present in numbers but absent in influence, visible at events but invisible in decision-making.

This initiative is, therefore, not just about mobilizing votes; it is also about demonstrating that the NRM Youth are not mere participants; but that we are partners in the struggle for continuity, stability, and protection of the Gains of the NRM leadership for the last so many years. We owe it to the Party that brought peace and opportunity, to the leaders who built this foundation, and to the generation that will inherit it. But above all, we owe it to ourselves to rise, to organize, and to lead with both conviction and humility.

“Sauti ya Vijana” is how we begin that journey of ensuring every young Ugandan in an institution understands what the NRM stands for, sees their future in its vision, and registers that conviction at the ballot box. We will not shout for attention; we will earn it through action. We will not wait to be invited to the table; we will build the table and bring others to it. We will not let the youth of Uganda drift into apathy or anger when they can instead be part of progress and purpose.

Because when the youth rise with one voice, when “Sauti ya Vijana” becomes the rhythm of every campus, every youth group, and every first-time voter; the NRM will not just win votes. It will win the confidence of a new generation. And that, fellow comrades, is the true victory.

Long Live our Revolutionary Leader President Museveni, Long Live the politics of substance and Progress, Long live the unity of the people of Uganda.

Thank you.

22nd October 2025, Makerere University. ”

The success of the initiative will depend on its ability to engage and mobilize young people across the country.
