KAMPALA, Uganda – The Uganda National Teachers’ Union (UNATU) has formally petitioned Speaker of Parliament Anita Among, highlighting ongoing salary discrepancies and other critical grievances affecting educators across the country. The petition underscores the urgent need for government intervention to address these long-standing issues.
Speaker Among, in response, pledged to expedite the matter by forwarding the petition to the relevant parliamentary committees for thorough review and action. She assured UNATU representatives that salary increments would be included in the upcoming budget.
Recognizing the potential impact of the situation, Speaker Among urged union leaders to consider calling off the ongoing strike, emphasizing the importance of uninterrupted education for students. She also conveyed that President Museveni is aware of the teachers’ concerns and committed to finding viable solutions to address them.
