MTN Uganda Launches 30 Days of Y’ello Care at Kansanga Seed Secondary School
Kampala, Uganda | MTN Uganda has commenced a special 30-day edition of its employee volunteerism initiative, “21 Days of Y’ello Care,” now extended to 30 days to celebrate MTN Group’s 30th anniversary. Themed “Learn Today, Lead Tomorrow: Education for Rural and Remote Communities,” the initiative addresses educational disparities in underserved Ugandan regions.
The campaign began at Kansanga Seed Secondary School in Kampala, where MTN Uganda provided 20 computers with one year of paid internet service for 1,700 students. Additionally, the MTN Internet Bus delivered digital skills training, and infrastructure improvements included a multi-purpose student shade, fruit and vegetable planting, water purifiers, and training female students in producing reusable sanitary pads.
Other schools benefiting from the initiative include St. Joseph’s Aid Society in Kyankwanzi District, Ongongoja Secondary School in Katakwi District, Ariwa Secondary School in Yumbe District, Bishop Dunstan Nsubuga Memorial School, and Nekemeya Seed Secondary School in Kalangala District.
Running until June 30, 2024, the campaign focuses on marginalized groups affected by economic factors, emphasizing inclusivity in education.
Sylvia Mulinge, CEO of MTN Uganda, emphasized the transformative power of education, stating, “By integrating technology into learning environments, we are opening up a world of opportunities for students in underserved areas.”
Kansanga Seed Secondary School’s head teacher, Wasimbi Kato, expressed gratitude, highlighting the empowerment of students through digital skills. Dorothy Kisaka, Executive Director at Kampala Capital City Authority, praised MTN Uganda’s impactful contributions.
Now in its 17th year, the “21 Days of Y’ello Care” program demonstrates MTN’s commitment to social responsibility, with employees volunteering across Africa to address education, health, economic empowerment, and environmental sustainability. The MTN Foundation also supports youth empowerment initiatives like the MTN Skills Academy and MTN Ace program, enhancing employability and entrepreneurship in Uganda.
