Anyati Lillian, a prominent leader of the NRM party in Kole District and a member of the party’s national executive body, is strongly urging the party leadership to cancel the recently concluded Women Council elections. These elections were held at various levels, from villages to sub-counties and across the entire district.
Ms. Lillian’s request comes from serious worries that the integrity of these elections has been compromised. She alleges that some NRM members, whom she describes as disloyal, have been working against the party’s interests. Specifically, there are accusations that certain Members of Parliament from the NRM, deemed “rebel” MPs, have been secretly supporting or cooperating with opposition groups.
The concern is that this alleged collaboration might have unfairly influenced the election outcomes, potentially skewing the results against genuine NRM candidates or weakening the party’s overall strength. Ms. Lillian believes that for the party to remain strong and united, and for its internal elections to truly reflect the will of its members, these particular Women Council polls must be nullified. She is advocating for a fresh start, ensuring that future elections are fair and free from external interference or internal disloyalty. This move aims to protect the NRM’s values and ensure that its elected representatives truly serve the party’s vision.
