Sam Engola, who represents Erute South in Parliament and also serves as the Minister for Relief, Disaster Preparedness and Refugees, has issued a strong warning against anyone misusing or redirecting money meant for road construction. He emphasized that every single shilling allocated for roads must bring real value and benefit to the local communities.
Minister Engolaβs firm stance came during a recent visit with officials from Lira District. Together, they inspected a total of 112 kilometers of road projects across Erute South. These projects are part of a larger government effort, including a significant road maintenance grant, to improve the area’s transport network. The inspection covered various roads, including those already finished, those still under construction, and new projects about to begin, some even supported by international partners.
Engola stressed that it is unacceptable to divert public money meant to improve people’s lives. He insisted that all road projects must be completed to the highest standards, and that every penny of taxpayer money must be properly accounted for. He highlighted that good roads are crucial for development, making it easier for people to reach markets, access healthcare, and get to schools. Government investments, he argued, must directly help improve the daily lives and opportunities for residents.
The Minister’s message is clear: the government is committed to ensuring that investments in infrastructure truly serve the public. He wants to make sure that these vital road improvements lead to better economic growth and easier access to essential services for everyone in Erute South.
